Most offices brand two surfaces: the glass and the wall behind reception. Frosted glass branding handles the first, and 3D signage handles the second. Used together, they give a visitor one consistent first impression. Priced separately, they often end up looking like they came from two different companies.
Here is what each costs and how to decide where to spend.
What counts as 3D signage
3D signage means dimensional letters or logos fixed to a wall, rather than flat print or paint. The common options in Kenyan offices are:
Acrylic letters are the entry point. Cut to shape, finished in gloss or matte, and mounted with spacers so they sit slightly off the wall and cast a soft shadow. They suit most reception walls and are the easiest to update.
Stainless steel or brushed metal letters read as more permanent and premium. Popular with law firms, banks and consultancies. They cost more because of material and fabrication.
Backlit and halo-lit letters hide an LED strip behind the lettering so the wall glows around it. This is the most dramatic option and the one that photographs best, but it needs a power point planned behind the wall.
What drives the price
Size is the obvious factor, but complexity matters as much. A simple wordmark in one colour costs far less than a detailed logo with several elements, since each element is cut and finished separately. Material comes next, then lighting, then installation conditions: mounting onto plain plaster is straightforward, while mounting onto fluted panels, stone cladding or glass needs different fixings and more care.
As a guide, acrylic reception lettering falls in the [insert range] band, metal letters in the [insert range] band, and backlit lettering above that once electrical work is included.
Frosted glass branding: the cheaper half
Frosted film cut to a logo or wordmark is generally the lower-cost element of the pair, and it can be replaced when the brand changes. Our Cost of Frosted Glass Branding and Partitioning in Nairobi article breaks down film versus etching in detail, and Frosted Glass Partitions with Branding covers where each placement works best.
Where to spend and where to save
Put the larger budget into the one surface every visitor sees: the wall behind reception or the glass wall at the entrance. Keep internal branding, such as meeting room strips and wayfinding, simpler. A premium reception logo with consistent but modest branding elsewhere reads as more considered than expensive signage on every surface.
Plan signage before the walls are finished
The most common mistake is ordering signage after the reception wall has been painted and lit. Backlit letters need power planned behind the wall. A logo on a fluted or cladded wall needs the fixing positions decided before the panels go up. Both are cheap to plan early and awkward to retrofit. Our Reception Desk and Area Design service plans the desk, wall, lighting and signage as one piece.
Combine it with partitioning
If you are installing glass partitions anyway, adding branding to the same quote is more cost-effective than commissioning it later, because panel sizes can be set around where the logo will sit. See Aluminium & Glass Partitions.
