How Much Does It Cost to Partition a SACCO Branch in Kenya?

Oct 15, 2026 Mark 5 min read

Budgeting for a SACCO branch partitioning project is rarely straightforward. Because a branch balances welcoming member lounges, high-security teller zones, and private loan offices, partition costs naturally vary based on privacy, security, and material needs.

SUIMAS Interiors takes the guesswork out of your fit-out budget.

As Kenya’s most trusted commercial partitioning experts, SUIMAS Interiors designs and installs tailored SACCO environments. From acoustic glass offices for confidential consultations to reinforced secure barriers for financial halls, Suimas does interior design uniquely. They optimize space, enhance physical security, and protect your bottom line with transparent pricing and flawless delivery.

What This Guide Covers:

Smart Savings: Where to cut costs without compromising safety or soundproofing.

Key Cost Drivers: What impacts your partitioning budget most.

Zone Selection: Matching the right partition to public, private, and secure areas.

Budget Planning: How to build an accurate cost estimate before asking for BOQs.

What a SACCO branch actually needs to partition

Most branches need some or all of these zones:

  • Lobby and waiting area for members, usually open and welcoming
  • Customer service or member desks
  • Teller or cashier counters
  • Cash office or cash processing room
  • Loans or credit office, which needs privacy
  • Manager’s office
  • Boardroom or meeting room
  • Back office and staff area
  • Server or communications room
  • Kitchenette and washrooms
  • Strong room or safe

What drives the price

1. Partition type and area. The total linear metres of each type is the biggest factor. A branch with many small enclosed rooms needs more partitioning than an open-plan one of the same floor area.

2. Glass type and thickness. Standard toughened glass costs less than laminated glass, and security-rated glazing costs more again. Thicker glass and larger panels also cost more.

3. Framing. Aluminium profile grade, powder-coat colour and whether the frame is standard or custom all affect price. Matching a SACCO’s brand colour usually adds a premium over a standard finish.

4. Doors and hardware. Locks, closers, access control and secure frames for cash areas are priced per door.

5. Acoustic performance. Loans offices and meeting rooms need better sound control, which means insulation, acoustic glazing and careful sealing.

6. Counters and teller screens. Custom counters are usually priced separately from the partitions around them.

7. Branding. Frosted manifestation film, logos and wayfinding add cost, though less than most owners expect. See Cost of Frosted Glass Branding and Partitioning in Nairobi.

8. Height. Partitions that run full height to the slab cost more than those that stop at the ceiling, but give much better privacy and security.

9. Site conditions. Uneven floors and walls, upper-floor access, limited lifts and working-hour restrictions all affect labour time.

10. Coordination with other work. Ceilings, lighting, flooring and electrical work have to line up with the partitions. See Gypsum Ceilings & Integrated Lighting.

Security: where not to cut corners

Teller counters and cash-handling areas are where security matters most. When designing them:

  • Specify security glazing for the teller line according to your risk assessment.
  • Confirm requirements early with your insurer and any regulator or supervisory body that sets standards for cash-handling areas. Requirements vary, so check them before you finalise the design.
  • Keep sightlines clear so that staff and cameras can see the lobby, counters and entrance.
  • Separate staff and member routes, with controlled doors between them.
  • Plan CCTV and alarm positions with the partitions, not after them.

Saving money on a gypsum back-office partition is sensible. Saving money on the teller line is not.

Privacy: loans and sensitive conversations

Members discussing loans, arrears or personal finances need to feel they cannot be overheard. That means:

  • Partitions run full height where possible, since sound travels over the top of partitions that stop at the ceiling.
  • Insulation in the cavity of gypsum walls.
  • Acoustic glazing and sealed frames in glass offices.
  • Frosted film at eye level so the room is private but still bright.
  • Solid-core doors with good seals.
